What was The Kandy Waters Memorial Classic?

The Kandy Waters Memorial Classic (KWMC) was a professional golf tournament brought to the CSRA by Bonaventure Golf, the title sponsor. It was an event on the NGA Hooters Tour, later the Swing Thought Tour, from 2000 until 2017 when Hurricane Irma insisted we cancel that year. It was a wonderful way for golf professionals to get experience before playing the PGA Tour and Augustans thoroughly enjoyed getting to observe professional golf up close.

Who was Kandy Waters?

Kandy Waters opened an Augusta branch of the Savannah Bonaventure Golf in Daniel Village in 1980. She loved golf. Within 3 years, she had opened two more shops, Martinez,GA and Aiken, SC. In the 80’s Bonaventure grew to 9 stores. In ’92, she consolidated the three stores into the location it is today, Bobby Jones Expressway and I-20.

Kandy Waters died March 3, 1998. She was a role model for everyone who knew her. She touched more lives in one lifetime than most of us could do in three lifetimes. She was intelligent, independent, vibrant, self confident, daring, competitive, gracious and someone you just wanted to be around. She truly believed if she could do it, you could do it. She believed in the human spirit.
